Gender/Women in Judaism: Group and Individual

Before looking at specific issues within this topic, it is important to consider the fundamental dynamic that is at the root of the issue. Beyond even a general study of gender itself, is the very question of how we see and characterize human beings. We can view a human being as a singular individual but we also can, and do, view human beings as part of larger groupings. It is this characterization by group, and the affect of this group definition upon the individual, that must be are starting point.
